The RPL programming language (RPL meaning ROM-based procedural language following Hewlett-Packard or, alternatively, Reverse Polish LISP) is a handheld calculator system and application programming language used on Hewlett-Packard's engineering graphing RPN calculators of the HP, HP, HP and HP series, but it is also usable on non-RPN calculators, such as the HP series. A processor understands only machine language instructions, which are strings of 1's and 0's. However, machine language is too obscure and complex for using in software development. So, the low-level assembly language is designed for a specific family of processors that represents various instructions in symbolic code and a more understandable.

Programming in User RPL - First concepts. Now that you've payed bucks for you HP48GX, it should at least be able to do everything you need. Several funcitions are already avaliable, but probably you'll need to do something the HP cannot do automatically. Say for example, you have to calculate the determinant of a symbolic matrix.

Assembly Programming Tutorial Assembly language is a low-level programming language for a computer, or other programmable device specific to a particular computer architecture in contrast to most high-level programming languages, which are generally portable across multiple systems.   This book is virtually indispensible. I find it much more useful than the AUR, even though it isn't as comprehensive, because it is much more compact (at 5" wide by 7" tall by 7/8" thick) and covers more than just User RPL programming. This gives much more advanced examples of graphics and provides a good introduction to System s: 1.

RPL is a handheld calculator operating system and application programming language used on Hewlett-Packard's scientific graphing RPN (Reverse Polish Notation) calculators of the HP 28, 48, 49 and 50 series, but it is also usable on non-RPN calculators, such as 39 and 40 series. RPL is a structured programming language based on RPN, but equally capable of processing algebraic.

The internal low- to medium-level variant of RPL, called System RPL (or SysRPL) is used on some earlier HP calculators as well as the aforementioned ones, as part of their operating system implementation language.

In the HP 48 series this variant of RPL is not accessible to the calculator user without the use of external tools, but in the HP Jim Donnelly’s “Gray Book” Jim Donnelly (HP48 design team member) wrote a book in entitled An Introduction to HP 48 System RPL and Assembly Language Programming, popularly known among HP48 and HP49 hackers as “The Gray Book” because the cover is gray and the real title is too long to remember.

Jim has graciously given his permission for the entire book (in PDF form, completely. Easy Course in Programming the HP48G/GX by Dan Coffin. A Guide to Hewlett Packard Handheld Calculators by W.A.C. Mier-Jedrzejowicz.

Most good Saturn assembly language tutorials are in French, and the only English-language one is James Donnelly’s “An Introduction to HP 48 System RPL and Assembly Language Programming,” and although it is a great book for System RPL, its assembly language section. com/brizzly. It focuses mainly on embedding System RPL within User RPL using SYSEVALs, but the techniques used are the same as real System RPL. Stack operations and graphics operations are the main topics. The information is mostly duplicated in An Introduction to HP 48 System RPL and Assembly Language Programming, also by James Donnelly, so if you already.

Later, James Donnelly, an HP developer, wrote "An Introduction to HP 48 System RPL and Assembly Language Programming." It was not an HP publication but was done with the company's blessing and they allowed their HP development tools to be distributed on a disk that came with the book.

This opened to door to faster more powerful programming.
